What happens with chronic pain?

If you have chronic pain due to autoimmune conditions, this may be because the body is in a chronic state of stress.

Even if you don’t necessarily feel stressed, your body might be in a persistent negative state that has become so familiar it feels normal. It is important to understand that chronic stress can be an underlying cause of ongoing pain.

Emotions manifesting as pain

Our experiences show that emotional reactions can be linked to specific areas of the body.

For example, irritation directed at yourself may manifest as pain on the left side of the body, while irritation directed at others may manifest on the right side. Pay attention to where in your body your pain is located and see if you can connect this to specific emotions or situations.

Example: If you experience a lot of stress and have a high activity level in your daily life, you might frequently get headaches.
